In October, 2019, the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) posited that the Nigerian celebrity and social media superstar, Mompha (Ismaila Mustapha), alongside his Lebanese friend Hamza Koudeih, had laundered about N33 billion naira allegedly.

According to the chief of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, the arrest of Mompha and his friend would be their biggest catch since the start of 2019.

According to Ibrahim Magu, Mompha operates about 51 independent bank accounts, and with these accounts, he’s able to acquire properties in Dubai. He also noted that Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), had laundered through Ismalob Global Investments Limited, a sum of N14 billion.

At the point of Mompha’s arrest, they were able to recover 5 expensive wristwatches valued at over N60 million naira.

Talking about Koudeih, Ibrahim Magu revealed that he lived in an apartment which costs $5 million each year in rent.

Koudeih also operates two firms, THK Services Limited and CHK Properties Limited. With both firms, the Lebanese friend of Mompha had laundered over N19 billion naira.

As top personalities at Organized Cyber Syndicate Network (OCSN), the EFCC was able to detain Mompha and Koudeih through the activities of credible intelligence.

Mompha was arrested on the 18th of October, 2019 at his favourite airline complex, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. This happened as he was about to fly out the country to Dubai.

His friend, Hamza Koudeih was arrested in Lagos State. This is what the EFCC had to say about their arrest…

Investigations have also revealed that Ismaila is only using the BDC business, he jointly owned with his siblings, as a decoy to launder his proceeds of crime.
